Vintgaring through
Triglav National Park
The Vintgar Gorge is the second largest natural attraction in Slovenia, hosting over 300,000 visitors annually. For this unique attraction, carved by the Radovna River during the last ice age and discovered only 130 years ago, we have developed a comprehensive interpretation of the trail, website content, and the concept of "Vintgaring"—a half-day or full-day experience of spectacular views, cultural landscapes, and traditions in Triglav National Park.
VINTGARING THROUGH THE WOODS OR ALPINE VINTGARING?
Vintgaring begins with a path through Vintgar Gorge and continues along one of two thematic circular trails. We have created audio stories in Slovene and English, which can be accessed via QR codes and links to audio guides on the website.
THE KING OF TRIGLAV TRAIL AND THE RIVER OF TREES TRAIL
On both trails, visitors learn extensively about the natural and cultural features of Vintgar Gorge and its surroundings. The King of Triglav Trail is named after Professor Albin Belar, a renowned scientist and seismologist with a pioneering idea to protect the area around Triglav, the highest mountain and symbol of Slovenia. Had there been legal protection in the early 20th century, Triglav National Park might have been the oldest in Europe. The River of Trees Trail is named after the tall giants lining the trail—from spruce to beech, which never grows alone to protect its leaves from the sun.
