In cooperation with Gornjesavski muzej Jesenice, the Upper Sava Valley Museum, we developed a strategy for the development and promotion of its museum sites. Special attention was devoted to the renewal of the Slovenian Alpine Museum, one of Slovenia’s most visited museums, which is preparing to expand and update its permanent exhibition.
The heritage of Slovenian mountaineering and life in the Alps
Have you already visited the Slovenian Alpine Museum? What about the museum in Kos Manor in Jesenice, the young city of red dust? Or Liznjek Homestead in Kranjska Gora, home to the stories of Kekec, and Kajžnk House in Rateče, the home of the Rateče Manuscript – the second-oldest preserved text in the Slovene language after the Freising Manuscripts?

Five museum sites and one gallery
Gornjesavski muzej Jesenice brings together five museum sites and one gallery and is an important guardian of the cultural heritage of the Gorenjska region. Its flagship site, the Slovenian Alpine Museum in Mojstrana, welcomes around 55,000 visitors annually, making it one of the most visited museums in Slovenia. The museum is preparing for a complete renewal of its permanent exhibition and an expansion into a new extension.
Our team, led by strategists Neja Petek and Petra Goneli, worked closely with the management and professional staff of Gornjesavski muzej Jesenice to develop a comprehensive strategic framework for the development and promotion of all its museum sites, together with an action plan for the period 2026–2030.
The strategic process included:
✔ Workshops and in-depth interviews with key stakeholders.
✔ Definition of the museum’s vision, strategic objectives and target audiences.
✔ Development of a year-by-year action plan covering the key areas of activity.
✔ Stakeholder workshops and a focus group.
✔ Guidelines for the renewal of the permanent exhibition at the Slovenian Alpine Museum.
